Rain Gardens 101
Saturday, October 21
A field trip and volunteer workday was sponsored by Upstate Forever to learn more about the benefits of rain gardening and to gain some hands-on experience constructing a demonstration rain garden in downtown Greenville.

Half-Day Field Trip: Lake Conestee Nature Park
September 16, 2006
About 45 people spent the day learning about the Conestee Nature Park project and a history of the lake before hiking on several miles worth of newly created trails through the property. Click here to read the Greenville News article on the hike and other on-site activities. |

Infrastructure Management and Risk Reduction in Urban Floodplains
June 23, 2006
This field trip explored the complex and conflicting issues in urban floodplain management, from leaking sewer lines to structures in the floodway. |
Half-day Water-Quality Field Trip:
Key Management Issues in Lake Greenwood & other Piedmont Lakes
June 13, 2006
This field trip included an afternoon pontoon boat excursion on Lake Greenwood to explore water quality and lake management issues in a hands-on context.

Greenville County Tree Policy Advisory Committee
Regular Committee Meeting & Public Hearing
June 8, 2006
The regular committee meetings are held every other Thursday at Greenville County Square
at 8am. The public hearings meet in the evening hours and are devoted entirely to citizen comments.

This field trip visited 3 highly innovative new neighborhoods - one nearly completed, two just beginning construction - whose developers recognized that low impact development is great for the bottom line (as well as good for the environment).

Full-day Water-Quality Field Trip:
Learning from Charlotte's Floodplain Management Program
May 11, 2006
This field trip visited community leaders and program managers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area to learn about getting structures out of the floodplain and steer development to higher ground.
