Saluda-Reedy Watershed Maps
The Saluda-Reedy watershed begins at the North Carolina-South Carolina state line, where the Saluda River begins as a network of streams plunging over the cliffs of the Blue Wall. These streams come together to form the Upper, Middle and Lower Saluda Rivers that flow through rural, largely agricultural areas in the foothills. The Reedy begins just north of Greenville and flows through greater Greenville where it is highly impacted by stormwater, flooding and other stresses from urban environments. The Reedy and Saluda Rivers flow parallel to each other until the two join at Lake Greenwood.
Though the Saluda continues below Lake Greenwood and flows towards Columbia, the watershed upstream of the lake is the focus of this project. Why? Because many of the water quality problems that originate in the booming Greenville metro area - most prominently, erosion and the sediment that results -- come to roost in Lake Greenwood.
